The Nutcracker of Riepass (A Nymph's Tale Ep 2)

A YA visual novel with jrpg battles and optional minigames, fantasy-adventure-comedy. Episode 2 of 'A Nymph's Tale' but can also be played as a stand-alone. Battles are optionally skippable when lost and their difficulty can be adjusted by using optional items.

A young man sets on a quest to find the mysterious beauty he heard tales of, but instead runs into the beauty's little sister who has a bad tendency to beat men who annoy her.

BACKSTORY:

In the north-western part of Emeria rises the great Riepass mountain range. The frigid mountains are home to the Iadra race, the great lunar wolf packs, the winter nymphs and all manner of creatures of ice and cold. The stories tell that in the giant caverns near the highest peaks, sleeps a strange creature who holds dominion over the mountain realm. Some say it is a monster of madness from ancient times, others claim it is a benevolent being, who helped to heal the land after the world was ruined by the poisonous miasma caused by the Great Wars. Regardless of the truth, even the foulest denizens of Riepass seem to show reverence to the creature.

On one spring evening, a terrible wail echoed through Ikaliak Valley. A wail loud enough to make the creature stir for a fleeting moment, before continuing its fathomless dreams. It was not the sound of the great wolf packs howling at the twin moons, nor the shrieks of the grokes beginning their hunt at the fading light, but rather a very distinct kind of wail, the high pitched wail of half a dozen men having their cullions crushed with a heavy wooden club…

Lord Kallik was exasperated. Another attempt at forging alliances had been ruined, as Amka, his daughter of twelve, had gone on another rampage, hitting the nuts of young Nunik and the men from his entourage, all because of some petty squabble. What was he going to do with his daughters? The older one had buried herself in the nymphs’ laboratories, indifferent to the happenings of the clan, the younger one was impetuous and mercurial. And her blasted club! This time confiscating it would not be enough, his daughter needed a proper punishment.

And so, Amka was sent to join the scouts for a month to patrol the outer reaches of the mountain realm. One day the scouts received reports of a strange sighting. A lone human male had been seen wandering towards their kingdom of ice and snow. The man was freezing, woefully unprepared for the harsh environment and ignorant of the dangers of the mountains. The wolves had spotted him first. Curious and amused they had kept an unseen watch on him and protected him from monsters, as the man carried a faint scent of Arrlak, one of their own, a wolf who had left the mountains years earlier.

An order was given to Amka to save and apprehend the man and make him appear before their lord. Gripping her club, she left to meet the strange and foolhardy man who so carelessly intruded on their mountain realm…
